During preoperative evaluation the anesthetist evaluates and prepares patients for anesthesia and surgery. An effective evaluation may contribute to decrease perioperative complications and minimize postponed surgeries. The anesthetist should know the risks asociated with a particular type of surgery and understand the patients underlying medical problems.

Anaesthesia history can be facilitated by a structured questionnaire. Timing of the assessment |
